What counts as a key item in Silver Pines?
Silver Pines does not level-gate its map. It gates it with objects. The town opens up as you collect keys, codes and tools, and a locked door is the game’s way of saying you have not found the right thing yet.
That design has one ugly side effect. Nothing in the demo tells you how many key items exist or where they are, so a missed key never announces itself. You simply stand in front of a door that will not open, or you reach the end of the demo and find the tunnel empty and the phone silent. One player reported exactly that on the Steam forums; the fix turned out to be a key item sitting on a basement table they had walked past.
Official source: Silver Pines on Steam — “Filled with locked doors and hidden paths, every turn holds an uncovered clue, a resource, or something waiting in the dark.”
The list below covers the key items our sources actually document, with the demo location we can verify and a plain note where nobody has published one.
Where do you find the underpass key?
Garth’s Pharmacy, early in the demo. The name tells you what it opens: the underpass, the underground route that connects the opening stretch of town to the later areas. If a route runs below ground and refuses to open, this is the item you are missing.
The pharmacy sits in the opening town loop, before the general store section, and the key arrives around the same time the game starts trusting you with real navigation. Our general store and underpass walkthrough picks the route up from there and covers the tarp wall and the vent climb that follow it.
Where is the Crimson Bear Motel check-in key?
At the Crimson Bear Motel itself, and the name is literal. It is the check-in key for the motel, obtained as part of the scripted arrival at the front desk in the demo’s middle section. It is not hidden behind a puzzle and it is hard to miss.
What comes after is less forgiving. The motel packs in the guest suite, the pool, the game room and most of the demo’s missable upgrades, and each of those wants its own access. Treat the check-in key as the start of a sweep, not the end of one. The motel walkthrough sets out the full order of operations, and the Crimson Bear Motel page breaks the building down room by room.
How do you win the pool key in the motel game room?
You do not find the pool key. You win it. The motel game room holds a BB gun shooting gallery, and clearing it awards the key. Bloody Disgusting described the sequence as giving off “a Silent Hill vibe with its logic”, and it doubles as the game’s aiming tutorial, which is why the target practice feels more deliberate than the rest of the demo’s shooting.
Official source: Bloody Disgusting: Silver Pines preview — the BB gun gallery is the pool key puzzle, and a pool key is the prize.
The pool key opens the motel pool area. Skipping it costs you more than scenery: the pool has a drain encounter, and the changing room beside it contains the one demo fight several players describe as genuinely unavoidable, because that room has no door to slip through.
Are the ferry key and the ferry office key the same item?
This is the messiest naming problem in the demo, and nobody has settled it. Our sources describe two things:
- A ferry key, obtained late in the demo, that unlocks the ferry itself.
- A ferry office key, taken from the basement below the gift shop, used to open the ferry office.
Players use both phrases interchangeably for whichever key they happen to be holding. In one thread, the answer to “I cannot finish the demo” is a single instruction to go down to the basement and pick a key up off the table. In others, a player who says they have the ferry key still cannot open the ferry office, and a player who says they have the ferry office key reports unlocking the ferry.
We are keeping both readings because we cannot resolve them. Practical advice: hold every key you find, try both doors, and if the tunnel is empty and nobody calls you, search the gift shop basement before anything else. The Rabbit Hole and ferry walkthrough covers that stretch in order.
Where are Eddie’s dossier and the Silver Pines map?
Eddie’s dossier is confirmed as a key item in the demo. Its pickup location is not documented in any source we could verify, so if you see a confident map marker for it elsewhere, treat that as unconfirmed. The dossier belongs to the same late-demo cluster as the ferry keys, and that is the whole of the evidence we have.
The Silver Pines map is the key item you will actually use minute to minute. It is a 2D map of a town that wraps vertically, so you “turn” by pressing up or down where the background opens rather than by walking through a doorway. The map records your last known position, locked areas and clues, and you can attach camera photos to it as your own notes. Both systems are documented, and the map and camera guide explains the workflow, including why the camera is the single best tool for the key-hunting problems on this page.
Full demo key item list
| Key item | Where you get it | What it opens | Confidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| Underpass key | Garth’s Pharmacy | The underpass route | Documented |
| Check-in key | Crimson Bear Motel front desk | The motel and its rooms | Documented |
| Pool key | BB gun shooting gallery, motel game room | The motel pool | Documented |
| Ferry key | Late in the demo | The ferry | Documented, naming ambiguous |
| Ferry office key | Basement below the gift shop | The ferry office and its radio | Documented, naming ambiguous |
| Eddie’s dossier | Not documented | Story item tied to Eddie Velvet | Item confirmed, location unconfirmed |
| Silver Pines map | Early, alongside the camera | Navigation, markers, camera notes | Documented |
That is seven entries, but do not quote it as an official total. If the ferry key and ferry office key are one item under two names, the real count is six, and no official list has ever been published.
Can you drop key items in Silver Pines?
Patch 2, released 2026-06-12, added a line to the patch notes stating that certain key items can no longer be dropped. Read that as a bug fix rather than a design flourish. Demo inventory is slot-based and tight, and a player who threw away a key to free a slot and then saved could lock themselves out of the ending with no way back.
The practical rule is simple. If you bought it from a vending machine, it is replaceable. If it has a name and a description, keep it. The inventory guide explains how slots and the item box interact, and the hip pouch locations page shows where the demo hides its documented slot upgrades, which is a better answer to a full bag than discarding anything.
[!warning] Do not drop anything you cannot buy again Ammo, herbs and bottles come back from vending machines. Keys do not. Patch 2 removed the ability to drop certain key items precisely because a dropped key could end a run.

Why does the lighthouse stay locked in the demo?
The lighthouse is the cleanest example of a key item you are meant to find after the demo ends. A developer answered the question directly: you will not get into the lighthouse in the demo, and you will need a later item for it. The door is set in concrete and secured with a padlock, and neither the shotgun nor the heaviest melee attack does anything to it. Players who read that wall as destructible burned shells on it for nothing.
[!critical] Not every locked thing is solvable in the demo The lighthouse, the car trunk in the motel car park, the locked dressing room at The Rabbit Hole, Room 3 at the motel, the cracked rock wall in the lower right of the map, the stars box and the furnace are all confirmed or widely reported as impossible to resolve in the demo. The lighthouse answer is the general rule: you need a later item. A locked door here is a teaser, not a puzzle you have failed.
One more thing worth knowing before you replay for a missing key. Demo progress does not carry into the full game. The developer explained that the save system was reworked to be more patch-friendly and that the demo’s save format predates the change, so demo saves will not transfer. Collect everything for practice, not for keeps.
