FAQ

What is the meat locker code in Silver Pines?
It is whatever the General Store calendar points to on your run. One recorded playthrough used 2311, but a developer preview says puzzles and codes are randomised between runs, so read the calendar and enter that number instead of copying a guide.
How do I get out of the General Store and drop-off loop?
Jump up onto the wall on the left, then cut through the tarp wall in the tunnel with the boxcutter. There is a ladder partway along that takes you back up to the earlier part of the area. This is the route the developers themselves gave on the Steam forums.
How do I leave the underpass after the bugs?
Walk to the far left end of the area and press jump to climb up into the vent. That vent is the intended exit, not a dead end.
Do I need to save before the underpass?
Yes. Save at a payphone before you drop into the basement. At least one player reported being unable to climb back upstairs after picking up the fuse, and that thread never received a developer reply.

Where does Part 2 of the Silver Pines demo start?

Part 2 begins the moment you are standing outside Rodney’s General Store with the underpass key already in your pocket. If you do not have that key yet, you are still in Part 1: the key comes from Garth’s Pharmacy, and the route up to that point is covered in the diner and town walkthrough.

There is no new tutorial here and no new weapon gating. The store section is a keycode puzzle wrapped around a short combat stretch, and almost everyone who gets stuck in the demo gets stuck in one of exactly two places: the calendar puzzle, or the loop between the store and the drop-off.

What you should have Where it comes from Why it matters here
Underpass key Garth’s Pharmacy Opens the underpass route that links back to the store side
Boxcutter Early demo Cuts tarp, kills the bugs below, cheapest weapon in the game
Camera diner Lets you photograph a code instead of memorising it
At least one coin Anywhere, plus the payphone coin return Buys the save you want before descending

[!tip] Photograph the clue, not the answer The camera is the demo’s best anti-frustration tool. Snap the calendar, the notes and any signage you walk past. The map keeps those photos as markers, so you can walk back to the lock and read the number off your own picture instead of a stranger’s guide.

How do you solve the calendar puzzle at Rodney’s General Store?

The puzzle is a read-the-room puzzle, not a riddle with a fixed answer. Inside the store there is a calendar, and the only public route we could find treats that calendar as the clue that produces the meat locker code. A full walkthrough video puts the calendar and the locker minutes apart, with the calendar first.

The practical method:

  1. Walk the store before you touch the lock. Read the counter, the walls and the office area.
  2. When something looks like a date, a page number or a stack of marked days, photograph it with the camera.
  3. Open your notes or your map photos, compare the numbers, and work out which four digits the room is pointing at.
  4. Type that number at the meat locker keypad.

The game does not pause while you enter a code, and enemies keep moving in real time, so clear the room first. If a walker is still shuffling around behind you, crouch and let it wander off before you start reading.

[!warning] Do not trust any number you read online A developer hands-off preview states that “the puzzles and codes are randomized between every run.” That claim has a single source, so treat it as likely rather than certain, but the safe habit is the same either way: the number in a guide is a record of somebody else’s run, not a universal password.

How do you open the meat locker and what code does it use?

The meat locker is a four-digit keycode lock. In one recorded playthrough the value entered was 2311. That number is worth knowing only because it tells you the shape of the answer: four digits, derived from the store, entered on a keypad.

Question Honest answer
Lock type Four-digit keycode entry
Documented value 2311, in a single recorded playthrough
Officially confirmed No, the developers have never published a code
Randomised Probably, per one developer preview
The actual solution Read the store calendar and enter the digits it gives you that run

Our meat locker code page breaks the derivation down in more detail, and the demo codes overview collects every number the community has reported, together with how much each one is worth trusting.

Official source: Silver Pines store page describes the game as built around “locked doors and hidden paths,” which is exactly what this section is.

How do you get through the underpass below the store?

Past the locker you drop into the basement and underpass beneath the store. This is a short, tight section with two bugs in it, and it is the first place the demo asks you to fight in a corridor instead of a room.

Rules that keep the fight cheap:

  • Bugs die fast to a charged melee hit. One player reported that a single charge attack kills them, which is consistent with how fragile the small enemies are.
  • Your stamina bar is short. Sprinting to the far end and arriving winded is how people die here.
  • Charged attacks lock you in place, so charge only when the bug is already close and committed.
  • If a bug has not noticed you, crouch and walk past. Crouching past occupied enemies is a confirmed developer-intended stealth option.

The underpass also contains tarp walls. The boxcutter cuts tarp, and the tarp is not decoration: at least one section of the route only opens once you have slashed it. If a corridor looks sealed, try the blade before you assume it is a dead end.

How do you escape the General Store and drop-off loop?

This is the single most common reason people stop playing the demo. You go into the store, come out at the drop-off, walk back, and the route appears to circle with no exit. It is not a bug, and the answer came from the developers themselves on the Steam forums:

Official source: Stuck in a loop with the grocery store and the drop off — “jump up on the wall at the left, and in the tunnel use the boxcutter to cut open the tarp wall. There’s a ladder partway that leads back up to the previous area.”

Step by step:

  1. Stop walking the ground floor. The exit is above you.
  2. Move to the left side of the loop and jump up onto the wall.
  3. Follow the upper route into the tunnel.
  4. Equip the boxcutter and cut the tarp wall blocking the tunnel.
  5. Continue through and take the ladder upward. It returns you to the earlier part of the area, which is the route forward.

If you have already cut the tarp and are still lost, the ladder is the part people miss. It is not at the very end of the tunnel, and Patch 2 specifically touched up scene visuals to make interactive objects like ladders easier to spot.

Where is the vent exit at the far left of the underpass?

The second developer-given answer solves the other dead end. Once the bugs are dead and the basement looks finished, the way out is environmental, not a door.

Official source: Stuck in a loop with the grocery store and the drop off — “you might have to walk to the left most part of the area and jump up into the vent to get out.”

Walk to the far left end of the underpass, stand under the vent opening, and press jump. You climb into it and the section ends. Nothing on screen labels it as an exit, which is why so many players circle the basement looking for a door that does not exist.

[!note] Two developer answers, two different stuck points Both of the quoted replies came from the same Steam thread, and both were posted because players could not tell an exit from scenery. If you are stuck in this area, assume the exit is either above you or through a tarp.

What should you do before you drop into the basement?

Save. The payphone system is the demo’s main save method and it costs money, but the coin return slot always holds one free coin, so a save here is effectively free the first time. Patch 2 made that coin more visible, which is why it is easier to spot in a current build. The saving guide covers the phone numbers and the free autosave points.

One specific warning is worth carrying into this section. A player thread titled “Cant go back upstairs in the basement where you get the fuse” reports exactly that problem, and it never received a developer reply. The fuse pickup is a separate basement from the store underpass, but the lesson transfers: save before you descend into any basement in the demo, because the demo has documented softlock reports and no in-game way to rewind one.

What cannot you open around here in the demo?

The demo is deliberately full of locks that stay shut. The town areas and shortcuts page keeps the full verified list, but the ones you will walk past early include a wooden barricaded shack, the pier under the seawater, a cracked rock wall and the lighthouse, which the developers confirmed needs an item from later in the full game. The car trunk in the motel parking lot and the lighthouse are both in the demo’s confirmed unreachable set.

The lure here is expensive: the revolver and shotgun can shoot padlocks and wooden barriers, but the developers stated that is not required for progression in the Outskirts, and that the full game hands you a more direct breaking tool once you reach town. Do not burn scarce ammo on scenery you cannot reach yet.

For the boss waiting much later on this route, see the Silver Pines tunnel boss guide. For the weapons that make this section cheaper, the melee and duct tape guide explains durability and when a charged swing is worth the risk.
