What areas of Silver Pines are confirmed to exist?
Silver Pines is a small American town that has been half-abandoned and half-forgotten, emptied out under an evacuation order that sent most residents away by ferry. The developers divide it into two bands: the Outskirts, where locked doors have to be forced with expensive tools, and the town proper, where you acquire a more straightforward method of opening locks and boarded doors that does not burn ammunition.
The demo only covers part of that map. What follows separates place names that official channels have confirmed from names that only exist in demo playthrough footage, because the two carry different weight. Roughly half the location names in circulation come from a single walkthrough recording or a single Steam post, and a few of them are player shorthand rather than signage you can read in-game.
[!note] One town, two naming habits Media and the store page say “small town America”. One outlet writes Silver Pines, WA, while another review calls it a midwestern town. The official material never pins a state, so this guide follows the official wording and leaves the geography open.
Which Silver Pines place names are officially confirmed?
These names appear in official channels: the Steam store page, the Steam Deck announcement, or developer replies. They are the safest set to build a route plan around.
| Location | Confirmed by | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| The diner | Official store copy and previews | The opening area where Red Walker wakes with no memory of how he got there |
| An abandoned motel | Official Steam Deck announcement | The Crimson Bear Motel, the demo’s central building |
| The Rabbit Hole Bar | Official Steam Deck announcement | The bar where the demo’s concert sequence takes place |
| The lighthouse | Media preview plus a developer reply | Visible from the diner parking lot, sealed in the demo, needs a later item |
| The ferry and the ferry station | Previews and the demo’s ending | The evacuation route and the demo’s final location |
| A cable car | Official Steam Deck announcement | Named in full-game material; no demo entrance found |

Which location names only come from demo playthroughs?
These names are documented by the people who played the demo. Most of them trace back to a handful of Steam threads and one full walkthrough recording, so treat them as accurate in shape and slightly soft in spelling.
| Location | What happens there | Confidence |
|---|---|---|
| The Outskirts | The area outside the town proper, where locks must be forced the expensive way | Developer wording |
| Crimson Bear Motel | The demo’s third area; also called the Crimson Bear Hotel | Multiple sources |
| Garth’s Pharmacy | Where you pick up the underpass key | Single walkthrough recording |
| Rodney’s General Store | Grocery store containing the meat locker and the calendar puzzle | Single walkthrough recording |
| The underpass and basement | The flooded passage under the store, with two bug enemies and a ladder back to the front | Multiple sources |
| The gift shop | A shop whose underground basement holds the ferry office key | Single Steam thread |
| The ferry boat office | Contains the radio station used to call the ferry | Single Steam thread |
| The tunnel | The demo’s final boss arena | Multiple sources |
| The pier, boat dock, and boardwalk | The waterfront area, including the little man encounter | Multiple sources |
| The motel shop and motel locked gate | The motel’s shop front; Patch 1 cleared its staircase | Steam news and a stuck thread |
| The games room | The motel’s game room, home of the BB gun range | Steam thread |
| The swimming pool and changing room | The pool, its drain, and a changing room with no door | Steam threads |
| The pine tree door, also called the blue door | A painted tree door that needs something other than a key | Steam thread |
| The underground storage room | The Rabbit Hole’s storage room, behind the pine tree door | Steam thread |
| The stairs of the Rabbit Hole Bar | A staircase that could trap players before Patch 1 | Steam news |
| The lake | Where the Burned Man appears | Media review |
| A flower shop | A puzzle location where flower prices feed into a code | Developer preview |
| Gift Shop Stairs | A spot that could trap players | Steam thread |
| “Miner Diner” | A YouTube chapter label, possibly the diner’s sign | Single video |
The gift shop matters more than its name suggests. The ferry office key that the demo’s ending depends on is in the gift shop’s underground basement, and the ferry boat office is where the radio that summons the ferry sits. If you are stuck at the end of the demo, these two are the locations to audit before anything else.
What can you not open or reach in the demo?
Eleven sealed things come up again and again in community threads. Each one is listed with the evidence behind it, because the difference between “I could not solve it” and “the developers confirmed it is closed” matters when you are deciding where to spend your evening.
| Sealed in the demo | Evidence | Source |
|---|---|---|
| The lighthouse interior | A developer confirmed you cannot get in and will need a later item; concrete wall and padlock ignore the shotgun and heavy melee | Developer reply in the cracked-wall thread |
| The car trunk in the motel parking lot | Players list it among things that cannot be opened in the demo | Steam thread and a completion checklist post |
| The boarded-up shack near the diner | Players concluded it is held back for the full game | Steam thread |
| Under the pier, below the water | Listed among demo areas that cannot be fully used | Steam thread |
| The Rabbit Hole’s locked dressing room | Same checklist; no item opens it in the demo | Steam thread |
| Crimson Bear Motel Room 3 | The woman’s room cannot be entered, though talking to her opens another route | Steam threads |
| The cracked rock wall, bottom right of the map | A player asked how to get in and reported the shotgun does nothing; no answer was posted | Reddit thread |
| The furnace | A player asked whether it is interactive at all; the developers did not answer | Steam thread |
| The boat engine parts and “the fragment” | Listed among items that cannot be fully used in the demo | Steam thread |
| The stars box | A dedicated thread asking what to do with it, with no public solution | Steam thread |
| The cable car | A thread titled “where is cable car?” with no demo entrance found | Steam thread |
Two of these are better documented than the rest and deserve separate mention. The lighthouse is the only one with a direct developer statement, and the cracked rock wall is the only one where the community simply has no answer rather than a confident “not in the demo”. If you are compiling a to-do list, the rock wall is the honest unknown.
The primary threads behind that table are the cracked wall and lighthouse thread, the completion checklist thread on what cannot be fully used, the unavoidable-enemy and car trunk thread, the stars box thread, the “where is cable car?” thread, and a Reddit thread on fully completing the demo that is only readable through search summaries because the site blocks automated access.
Similarly, the old advice about shooting padlocks and blasting boarded doors with the shotgun now comes with a caveat straight from the developers: doing that is not required for progression in the Outskirts, and reaching the town gives you a more straightforward method for both that does not consume an expensive resource. If a surface is glassy, concrete, or rock rather than wood, it is almost certainly not a target in this build.
[!critical] These are not bugs Every sealed location on the list above is deliberate. Silver Pines is a metroidvania: the town opens up as you acquire better tools and weapons, and the demo is a slice of a much larger map. The developers have said outright that some doors need items which do not exist yet, and the repeated community conclusion is that these are being saved for the full release. Do not file them as soft-locks, and do not burn ammunition proving it. The demo’s actual soft-lock reports are a different list: the gift shop stairs, the Rabbit Hole stairs, the basement fuse room, and the bar video sequence, all of which have patch notes or developer replies attached.
What shortcuts connect the Silver Pines areas?
The demo’s map is two-dimensional but navigated by turning. At openings in the background you press up or down to move between layers, which is why the town reads as a tower lying on its side rather than a flat platforming stage. That structure is what makes shortcuts worth learning.
| Shortcut | How it works | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| The underpass ladder | A ladder partway through the underpass climbs back to the front section | It converts a long backtrack into a short one |
| The left-wall climb | Jump up onto the wall on the left | It is half of the developer’s answer to the general store loop |
| The tarp cut | Use the boxcutter on the tarp wall in the tunnel | The other half of the same answer |
| The under-boardwalk passage | The boardwalk and boat dock have traversable space beneath them | Two demo patches fixed stuck spots down there, which confirms the route exists |
| The map plus camera | Photograph a clue and attach the photo to the map as a marker | It carries puzzle information across rooms, including locked doors and key items |
| The ferry | The demo’s cross-area transport, unlocked near the end | The only confirmed long-distance movement in the demo |
The general store and drop-off loop is the single most-asked route question in the demo, and the developers answered it themselves: jump onto the wall on the left, cut the tarp with the boxcutter, and use the ladder to return to the front section. Full step-by-step coverage lives in the general store and underpass walkthrough.
For fast travel, the honest state of the record is that it is unconfirmed. The ferry is the demo’s cross-area transport, the cable car is named for the full game, and no developer has described a fast-travel system. The map and camera guide covers how the map surfaces locked areas and last-known position, and why the diegetic signage in the world is often more useful than the map screen.
Where does the demo end and where does the ferry take you?
The demo ends at the ferry station after the tunnel boss. The chain is: Rabbit Hole Bar sequence, the ferry key, the key to the ferry station taken from the desk in the basement, the tunnel boss, then the ferry office where a radio station is used to call the ferry. That basement desk key is the root cause of the community’s most common “cannot finish the demo” report, and a developer answered it directly by telling players they might have to pick up the key on the basement desk for the game to progress.
Note that players use “ferry key”, “ferry office key”, and “ferry station key” loosely, and the record conflicts on whether these are one key or two. Both readings are preserved here, and the key items page keeps the same caveat.
The ferry itself is the town’s evacuation route, which is why the demo’s ending makes narrative sense even when it feels abrupt. The full game continues past it; the demo screen reads “TO BE CONTINUED” and the developers have confirmed that demo progress will not carry into the full release.
